Boosting block foam quality for Arabfoam’s production

The client: Arabfoam

Since its establishment in 1996 in Cairo, Arabfoam has been a leading foam block distributor specializing in continuous production of foams used in furniture upholstery and mattresses. In Egypt, competition among foam producers is fierce, and success means meeting the market’s needs accurately and precisely.

The challenge

Faced with two choices — upgrade their current machine, in constant production for more than 20 years, or invest in a brand new machine — Arabfoam chose the latter, helping to secure their position as a top tier supplier.

Standards for foam blocks differ between the European and North African markets. In Europe, high-quality foams for mattresses are expected to be smooth and easily conform to the body’s shape, like the familiar memory foam. In Egypt, the standard for foams tends to be more hard, which is accomplished by incorporating fillers into the polyol before the reaction takes place. In addition to customized equipment, to create the blocks the market demands having high-quality reliable pumps that can handle their fillers is necessary.

Our solution

The machine, named Maxfoam, has substantially higher capacities and outputs than the one we supplied them with in the 1990s. After its implementation, the Maxfoam proved successful to the point that Arabfoam returned to further upgrade the machine. Thanks to its modular layout, they were easily able to add a flat-top system and liquid laydown to increase their foam’s quality. The only possible upgrade left to request is to add additional chemical lines.
